Wisdom Teeth Removal at St Marys Dental Clinic
Third molars, commonly referred to as ‘wisdom teeth’, usually erupt sometime between the age of 17-25 years old. For many people wisdom teeth do not cause any issue, however some people may experience pain and infection due to inadequate space for the teeth to come through. When wisdom teeth are stuck or ‘impacted’, they are often suggested to be removed.
Your dentist may advise you to get an OPG x-ray done, which will show all the teeth and jaw structure in one large picture. After examining this and discussing risk factors with you, your dentist will advise if they can do this extraction in house or if referral to a Specialist Surgeon is required.
